I love that wooden toys have made a comeback in recent years. They're sustainable, look good, can be handed down to younger siblings - and no landfill issues. Bigjigs Toys are based in Kent and have been producing toys since 1985, many of them wooden.This 11 piece Gardening Caddy is well crafted and very cute. Attractively boxed in recyclable packaging, it would make a perfect unisex gift for young gardeners aged 3+. It feels very durable. The bright greens appeal to youngsters and the child-sized hand tools here - trowel, hand fork and rake - are very useable whether they're digging in soil or in a sandpit.This set features a handy caddy with top handle to keep everything together - and everything's spot on as you'd expect from this brand. A pair of child-sized gardening gloves is also included along with a 6" ruler that's also marked out in centimetres and a ladybird dibber for planting and the child can easily see how far into the soil they're planting.There are 2 eco-friendly biodegradeable pots and 2 plant labels to get children started growing plants. More labels and similar pots can be purchased quite cheaply. Everything works perfectly well - the tools are borrow-able should you find child-with-caddy handy and your own trowel requires a trip to the shed.One of the reasons I particularly like Bigjigs is that not only do they represent quality, you can also be sure their toys are safe. This caddy set conforms to EN71 Toy Safety Standards - so no problems wondering what might be in the paint if children start sucking on the dibber or chewing on a plant label. It would make a perfect present for a young child with a summer birthday - and there's always a lot to be learned by getting your hands dirty.
